You're Not Broken.
You Human Differently.

If you’re tired of performing the most palatable version of yourself. If you’re bone-weary of doing all the heavy lifting in every interaction, only to be told you still somehow didn’t do enough. If you want to scream the next time someone calls you “too much,” “too dramatic,” or says “it’s not that serious”, you’re in the right place.

As an autism and ADHD therapist in Nacogdoches, I provide in-person sessions as well as telehealth across Texas.

A Therapist that Actually Gets It.

Human Differently was created from both professional expertise and personal understanding.

Crystalena Oberweiser, LPC-Associate (under the supervision of Lauren Hawkins, LPC-S), is an AuDHD therapist who understands neurodivergence not just academically but through lived experience.

With a background in education, counseling, autism support, and neuro-affirming care, her work focuses on helping neurodivergent people move beyond survival mode and toward lives that genuinely fit.

The goal is not to make you appear less autistic, less ADHD, or “more normal.” The goal is to help you build a life that works for your brain.

Why Work With Us

Neurodivergent-Affirming Support

Care designed to work with your brain, not against it.

Lived Experience + Professional Expertise

Support from someone who understands autism personally and clinically.

Practical, Real-World Guidance

Strategies for burnout, overwhelm, executive functioning, and everyday life challenges.

A Safe Space to Unmask

No pressure to perform "normal". Your authentic self - spiky edges and all - is welcome.

Answering Common Questions

What's your experience with autism & ADHD?

I didn’t talk much at all until I was 4, and I mostly echoed phrases back until I was about 6. I went through years of occupational, speech, and ABA therapies throughout childhood. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was an undergraduate in college. My special interests have included marine biology, baking, and school–in fact, wanting to learn more about myself led me to earn a PhD in human development from the University of Tennessee.

But if you meant my professional experience, a few recent highlights include:

  • Co-author: “A Pediatrician’s Practical Guide for Navigating Transition to Adulthood with Autistic Youth and Their Caregivers,” in Pediatric Clinics of North America (2024)
  • Co-chair: Neuroaffirming Humanistic Counseling Approaches interest network of the Association for Humanistic Counseling (2025 -)
  • Co-author: “Neuroaffirming approaches to counseling neurodiverse adolescents,” presented at the American Counseling Association annual conference (2026)
  • Presenter: “What an autistic professional wishes you knew about transition to adulthood,” Texas Transitions Conference (2026)
  • Co-author: “Addressing gaps in care through the extension for community health outcomes,” presented at the International Society for Autism Research, Stockholm, Sweden (2023)
  • Panelist: “Changes through ECHO,” at the METAECHO national conference (2023)
  • Co-author of Neuroaffirming approaches to crisis intervention,” presented at the American Counseling Association annual conference (2026)

Yes! You don’t have to be neurodivergent to work with me. I also have worked with individuals with ODD, OCD, dyslexia and dyscalculia, as well as those wanting support with the demands of “real” life.  I’m also happy to see those who haven’t obtained a formal diagnosis.

I see clients in person in Nacogdoches, TX. I also see clients across Texas using telehealth.

Currently, I have availability for new clients within about a week of scheduling. Clicking the button below will show my current availability. You may also call (936) 358-9348 or email Crystalena@humandifferently.com

Billing insurance means a diagnosis must be filed and often comes with rules about how often and what types of treatment can be used. I utilize a cash pay model to keep sessions private and choose the therapeutic style we think is best. Cash pay also opens my services to those who suspect a diagnosis, but may not have it in hand.

I offer a sliding scale from $125 (full price) to $60 for an hour-long session. For college students, I have a certain percentage of my caseload at an even lower rate.

I primarily utilize dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), along with elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution-focused brief therapy. For younger clients, I typically talk while using guided activities such as drawing or building.

I want you to find a therapist who is right for you. In a 20-minute conversation with no pressure, I think we both get a sense of how the relationship feels and whether it makes sense to move forward.
